A mood disorder affects a person’s emotional state. An individual may experience periods of extreme sadness, emptiness, or irritability (depressed), or you may have periods of depression alternating with being excessively happy (mania). Symptoms must be present for several weeks or longer. There are several types of mood disorders that our therapists can assist with which include : depression (major or clinical depression), postpartum depression, and seasonal affective disorder just to name a few. Depression is categorized by a prolonged and persistent period of extreme sadness. Seasonal affective disorder typically starts in the late autumn or early winter and lasts until spring or summer. Postpartum depression’s symptoms are more intense and last longer, and may interfere with your ability to care for your baby and handle other daily tasks. Bipolar disorder is characterized by extreme highs and lows in mood and energy. Mood disorders may include feeling sad most of the time or nearly every day, experiencing a lack of energy or feeling sluggish, worthless, or hopeless, and a loss of interest or insomnia. If you are experiencing some emotionally related concerns, feel free to reach out to one of our therapists to see how we help bring some balance and restoration to your life.
